LOJISTICS MANAGEMENT
AKU Bolvadin School of Applied Sciences was established by the Council of Ministers Decision dated 01/02/2010 and numbered 2010-103; it began its educational activities after being published in the Official Gazette on 26/02/2010. Bolvadin School of Applied Sciences continues its services as Bolvadin Faculty of Applied Sciences following the Presidential Decree dated 20.05.2021 and numbered 4000, published in the Official Gazette on 21.05.2021.
The Logistics Department was founded in 2013 within Afyon Kocatepe University, Bolvadin School of Applied Sciences. Student recruitment for both regular and evening education was first carried out in the 2013/2014 academic year. The department produced its first graduates in the 2016-2017 academic period. In 2015-2016, the name of the department was changed to Logistics Management.
The Logistics Management department provides a 4-year undergraduate education. The curriculum is designed to train professional managers who can communicate effectively, possess personal skills, and aim for continuous development with a sense of social responsibility. The program provides not only current theoretical knowledge but also applied training on how this information should be used in business life. For example, to ensure that the professional knowledge provided to students does not remain at a conceptual level, a compulsory on-the-job training application has been introduced. 4th-year students can perform full-time on-the-job training for one semester in private and public institutions that meet the conditions determined by the school, or in places of their own choice.
Although trade is the oldest economic activity, it is becoming increasingly complex and requires expertise due to globalizing economic relations. Numerous financial products have emerged in international financial markets to provide financing for foreign trade. Firms have a great need for experts who know modern foreign trade operations, various documents, and financing methods. On the other hand, logistics applications have gained great importance in today’s economic relations and foreign trade. Logistics expenses have reached high rates within the costs of firms. Since this field requires expertise, firms are increasingly transferring these activities to logistics companies. For these reasons, expertise in the field of logistics is certainly seen among the popular professions of today and the future.
Logistics management department graduates can find jobs in private firms much more than in government institutions. Therefore, those who want to be appointed to any government institution must study for the KPSS and get a sufficient score for appointment. In addition to the possibility of having an academic career in the relevant departments of universities after passing the necessary exams, graduates must have certain competencies to find jobs in private firms. For example, private companies pay attention to whether they know a foreign language when hiring logistics personnel. They prefer those who know a foreign language more. As it is known, companies dealing especially with import and export business attach great importance to foreign languages. Therefore, logistics students must learn a foreign language while still at the education stage. In fact, those who learn more than one language will be much more advantageous.
Logistics is a department where individuals have to develop themselves in terms of economic, technical, human relations, and social aspects. This multidimensionality, which is the requirement of the profession, is among the features that students who will choose the profession should also take into account. Students should realize that they are choosing a profession when choosing this department.
As understood, logistics does not only consist of a transportation activity. Logistics is the science of coordinating activities such as receiving, storing, and transporting items such as goods, services, and information to the point where the customer needs them within an economic plan. While these are the subjects of the “Logistics Management” Department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences in a narrow sense, the Department is equivalent to other four-year colleges and faculties providing education in the fields of economics, finance, and business administration, as BUBFA is a four-year higher education institution and the Department’s courses overlap with these fields. In addition, students have the opportunity to benefit from Exchange Programs with contracted Universities within the framework of the European Union-Erasmus Program. In the department where the language of instruction is “Turkish”, English and professional English-supported training spread over 4 years continues during the undergraduate education.
Working Areas
Today, within the framework of intense economic globalization, there is no private or public company left that is not related to international trade or logistics. For this reason, the working areas of the graduates of the “Logistics Management Department” are extremely wide. Although our graduates will be able to find jobs in the foreign trade, finance, and logistics departments of all companies, they will especially be able to find promising jobs and respected professional positions in import and export firms and logistics firms. Since the four-year BUBFA “Logistics Management Department” is equivalent to other faculty and college departments providing education in the fields of economics, international trade, finance, banking, and logistics, our graduates also have the opportunity to have all the professions and expertise that those graduating from these schools can obtain.
